Killing Of Top Military Men Shows Nobody Is Safe In Nigeria – CAN Chairman

The chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State, Most Reverend Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, has expressed concern over the safety of ordinary citizens following the recent gruesome killing of top military men.

He said in his remarks during the meeting of CAN at the State Secretariat in Minna, that if military personnel could be killed and foreign countries issue travel alerts to their nationals in Nigeria, it means the country is not safe for anybody.

The CAN chairman, who is also the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, said, “Who is safe and where in Nigeria can one boast of safety? If Nigerian military Generals and senior security officers can be killed, then who can not be killed?”

“There are several cases of kidnappings, abductions, killings, destruction of houses, markets, and farm produces are even burnt and carted away by these terrorists,” he lamented.

According to him, “Whether it is true or not, there are threats of attacks, we have seen over the social media space and even federal government institutions facing planned attacks in Abuja, the seat of power and some states, including Niger.”

He said that the country had degenerated into a state of fear as a result of various security challenges, adding that insecurity, hardship, and unfulfilled promises by leaders are the major problems that have bedevilled the country.

Bishop Yohanna expressed concerns about how foreign nationals were issuing warnings to their citizens not to visit some states and even to leave Abuja, the federal capital, for fear of attacks.

He called on the President Bola Tinubu-led government and the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, to act swiftly to beef up security, adding, “There is no smoke without fire.”

The CAN chairman said nothing will change until we do the right thing, we will experience a decline in almost all spheres of our lives”.
