The Forum of Women Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kabba/Bunu LGA of Kogi State has passed a vote of no confidence in senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Senator Sunday Karimi, citing concerns over his failure to connect with the grassroots after his election.
In a statement issued after a press conference in Kabba, the senatorial headquarters, the Kabba/Bunu LGA women leader, Olowosegun Bosede, said the decision followed consultations with women stakeholders across wards.
The forum said the move was aimed at upholding what it described as accountability, unity and ethical leadership within the party.
According to the statement, the women leaders expressed concern that the senator was allegedly linked to activities that could weaken party cohesion and constitute disloyalty to constituted authority within the state.
It added that such actions, if not nipped in the bud, could erode trust among party members and affect collective progress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group said the situation, according to complaints it received, may have affected engagement between the constituents and their elected representative.
The forum also referred to reports it described as suggesting possible alignment with opposition interests.
“Credible reports suggest the senator’s clandestine alignment with opposition parties, of the APC’s mandate,” the statement said.
It also expressed concern about what it described as alleged media attacks on party leaders, including the state governor, by groups it claimed were linked to the senator.
Announcing its resolutions, the forum said it had withdrawn its support for the senator’s potential candidacy in the 2027 elections.
“A vote of no confidence is hereby passed on Senator Sunday Karimi,” the group stated.
The women urged the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress to review the concerns raised and consider appropriate steps in line with the party’s internal processes.
“We reaffirm our commitment to fostering a party culture rooted in gender equity, accountability, and grassroots empowerment,” the statement added.
