Kogi, Edo Police Strengthen Security Collaboration, Conduct Joint Patrol

The Sustainable Development Goals Project Support Unit, Plateau State (SDGs-PSU), has launched the pilot phase of its elderly care programme, in Barkin Ladi local government area of the state.
The initiative, tagged “Dignity in Sunset,” is aimed at improving the welfare, health and dignity of elderly citizens.

While the pilot phase was launched in the Northern Senatorial Zone, the programme will be implemented across all three senatorial zones in line with the “Leave No One Behind” principle.

The state project coordinator, Mrs Nanbam Danjuma-Lot, said the programme reflects Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s commitment to vulnerable groups, especially the elderly, who deserve dignity and care after years of service.

Mrs Danjuma-Lot said the SDGs-PSU, in complementing government efforts, had continued to create awareness among Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as the general public, on the need to advance sustainable development and ensure that no category of citizens is left behind.

She linked the intervention to SDG 1 – No Poverty, SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being, SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.

The coordinator disclosed that the intervention consists of deliberate whole welfare packages, and free eye-care services, including eye screening, medication and provision of glasses, as well as other supportive services designed to improve the wellbeing of the beneficiaries.

She urged beneficiaries to make good use of the support and called on families to show more care and respect for the aged.

Barkin Ladi LGC chairman, Hon. Stephen Gyang Pwajok, commended the SDGs-PSU and the “Time is Now” administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang for the initiative and expressed appreciation for the attention being given to elderly citizens.

Traditional leaders, including the Da Gwom Rwei Barkin Ladi, represented by the Gwom Gwol, Da Chollom Gyang also praised the intervention.

He conveyed the council’s appreciation for the intervention and commended the SDGs-PSU for identifying with the elderly, particularly those who require special attention and support.
