The Kogi State government has appealed to the global community to come to its aid over the annual floods that ravage about 10 local government areas of the state.
The commissioner for environment, Hon. Victor Adewale Omofaiye, made the appeal at the ongoing United Nations Climate Change Conference tagged COP27 holding in Egypt.
According to Hon. Omofaiye, the destruction of property and farmlands submerged by water is devastating and beyond what the state can handle.
He solicited for a permanent solution to the annual disaster, which he noted had rendered many homeless.
In the same vein, the state government is to partner Oando Clean Energy towards ensuring improved waste management.
The commissioner, who expressed delight over the development, noted that the move was a welcome development aimed at ensuring effective waste management and job creation.
Hon. Omofaiye also made a presentation on Build Back Better: Mitigation and Adaptation for Climate Resilience and Economic Transformation in Kogi State where he highlighted efforts of the state government on erosion control and maintaining a clean environment.
