The Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Thursday, directed the immediate deployment of buses to different parts of Ilorin metropolis to ease the movement of commuters.

This is just as transporters hiked transport fares astronomically in Ilorin, the state capital, as a route that normally costs N500, now goes for N1,500.

Most residents of Ilorin metropolis were stranded as the tricycle operators prevented their members from working in protest against fuel price hike.

LEADERSHIP reports that most filling stations in Ilorin were dispensing fuel at N1,200 per litre.

But, in a swift reaction, the Kwara State governor ordered the rolling out of buses to convey commuters free of charge.

The governor’s directive was contained in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Thursday.

“The buses are to take people to the most central destinations free of charge. We hope that persons attending the SUBEB job placement interviews would find this helpful, particularly in the metropolis,” the statement said.

The governor also appealed to transporters and members of the public to exercise patience over the new fuel price hike, saying different government stakeholders were reviewing the situation with public good as a top priority.

“The inconveniences are regretted, and we are confident that things will ease as soon as possible,” the statement added.
