Politicians have been urged to shun any act capable of truncating the conduct of free, fair and credible general election this year.

Former attorney-general and commissioner for justice in Kwara State, Mr Titus Ashaolu (SAN) made the call during an interview with LEADERSHIP in Ilorin, the state capital.

Ashaolu urged politicians to avoid actions that may overheat the polity and lead to political instability.

He said all electioneering campaigns should be carried out peacefully without rancour.

Ashaolu appealed to those indulging in the act of buying and selling of permanent voter’s cards to desist from the act.

He also condemned the burning of offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in some parts of the country.

“Nigerians, poor or rich will benefit more from a flawless electoral process that engenders free, fair and credible elections come 2023. I therefore appeal to our politicians to avoid ‘do or die’  politics in their attempt to win elections.

” Our politicians should shun violence and any action that can overheat the polity. They should also caution their followers against fomenting troubles during the electioneering campaigns and the election proper. They should make their campaign issues based,” Ashaolu added.
