The people of Kwara north senatorial district on Tuesday threw their weight behind the second term bid of President Bola Tinubu.

At a well attended rally held at the Metropolitan Square, Ilorin, the people said Tinubu has performed excellently well to deserve a second term of office.

The former speaker of the state House of Assembly and two- time minister, Hon. Issa Bio Ibrahim, addressed the gathering on behalf of the leaders and stakeholders of the district.

He used the forum to announce the resolve of the people of the district to support any of their sons that emerge as the gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress( APC) so that the district could occupy the state’s number one political office for the first time since the return of Nigeria to democratic rule in 1999.

The rally was attended by gubernatorial aspirants from Kwara north – the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Yakubu Danladi- Salihu, Senator Sadiq Umar, Mohammed Bio and Alh Tajudeen Audu.

Ibrahim said they have secured the cooperation of all the gubernatorial aspirants from Kwara north to that effect.

He literally begged the people of Kwara central and Kwara south to support the northern senatorial district in its bid to produce the next governor of the state during the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers from Kwara north, the Emir of Lafiagi, Alh Muhammad Kudu Kawu, said the agitation for power shift is a reflection of the longstanding aspiration of the people of the district.

According to him, Kwara north has, for decades, remained on the margins of the state’s top leadership despite its contributions to electoral victories and political stability of the state.

He noted that the district has consistently demonstrated loyalty and unity in elections, contributing significantly to the success of the ruling party, and therefore deserves consideration in the spirit of fairness and inclusiveness.

Kawu appealed to stakeholders in Kwara central and south to cede the governorship seat to Kwara north, stressing that allowing Kwara North to produce the next governor would strengthen the unity and sustain the state’s reputation as the “State of Harmony.”

A former state legislator and commissioner of Information, Hon. AbdulMumin Katibi rolled out statistic data to show that Kwara north in the past elections produced the second largest vote- bloc after Kwara central.

He said this statistics showed that the district had always played prominent role in the emergence of the people of Kwara central and Kwara south as governors of the state.

Katibi said the time has come for the people of the other two senatorial district to reciprocate Kwara north ‘s gesture.
