Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has sealed eight hotels in Ilorin, the state capital, for operating without the requisite documentation and failing to comply with regulatory standards on hospitality establishments.

The head of the Department for Hotels in  KWEPA, Mr Aminullahi Abdulrahman,  conducted the enforcement exercise after official notifications and warnings.

AbdulRaheem said the affected hotels were given ample time to regularise their operations but ignored the agency’s directives.

The general manager of KWEPA, Hon. Jide Aina, said the exercise was conducted in accordance with the Kwara State Environmental Law.

He stated that the enforcement was not aimed at intimidating any business or individuals but was necessary to curb environmental infractions and uphold public health standards.

“This is not about targeting businesses but about ensuring that hospitality operators adhere to both local and international standards. A clean, safe, and healthy environment remains a top priority for the Kwara State government,” Aina stated.

He noted that enforcing compliance within the hospitality sector will help protect residents, promote public health, and foster a welcoming environment for investors and tourists.
