A socio-cultural group, Aro Meta Development Association has urged all the governorship aspirants from Kwara South to close ranks and support one of them to emerge as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress( APC).
The group warned that division within Kwara South could weaken its chances in the 2027 governorship race.
The chairman of the association, Evangelist Sunday Ajileye, gave the admonition while addressing newsmen in Ilorin, the state capital.
The Aro Meta group specifically urged other governorship aspirants from the zone to support the emergence of Dr Muyideen Salako from the Ibolo( Offa/ Oyun) bloc of the three blocs that make up Kwara south as a consensus candidate.
“We acknowledge that all aspirants are qualified, but unity is critical. Kwara South cannot afford to be divided. History will not forgive us if personal ambition costs us this opportunity,” the group said.
Ajileye, said the group arrived at its decision to zero in on Salako after a detailed assessment of aspirants from Kwara South.
He added that Salako stood out in leadership capacity, grassroots appeal and acceptability across the three blocs of Igbomina, Ibolo and Ekiti.
He described the endorsement as ” a strategic move to ensure the zone does not lose political relevance, especially amid growing interest from other senatorial districts.”
“Our position has always been clear that the next governor of Kwara State should emerge from Kwara South. This is not just about politics but about equity, justice and the stability of our collective interest,” he said.
He added that allowing other zones to dominate the race without strong participation from Kwara South would amount to conceding power, warning that such a scenario could sideline the district despite its significant voting strength.
Ajileye said Salako’s leadership as president of the Offa Descendants Union has shown his ability to unite diverse interests and deliver development-driven initiatives.
