Kwara Speaker Mourns, Seeks Justice For Man Who Died In Police Custody

The speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly,Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu has rued the death of Jimoh Abdulquadri in a police custody in Ilorin, the state capital.

He equally called on the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun to bring the killers of Abdulquadri to book.

Danladi-Salihu, in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, AbdulKadir Yusuf commiserated with the immediate family of the deceased and the entire youths in the state over the unfortunate incident.

LEADERSHIP reports that Abdulquadri reportedly died in a police cell in Ilorin on December 20 after he was detained on December 19, 2024 for allegedly owing a co- worker the sum of N220,000.

The family of the deceased had cried foul over the incident and called on the police hierarchy to ensure that justice is served on the matter.

In a swift response, the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, on Sunday visited the family of the deceased in Ilorin, where he assured them that thorough investigation would be carried out on the matter to ensure that justice is served on the matter.

He consequently directed the Federal Criminal Investigation Department ( FCID) to take over the investigation of the death of Abdulquadri.

The speaker added: ” “I’m deeply devastated by the death of my brother, Mr Jimoh Abdulquadri who died in police custody, this is a great loss to his family, to us as Kwarans, and indeed to the youth constituency. I commiserate with the deceased wife and children and his entire family. May Allah forgive Mr Abdulquadri and grant him Aljanat Fridaos, Aameen”.

“I want to commend the IGP Kayode Egbetokun for his sense of duty and for the seriousness he attached to the matter. I also call on him not to leave any stone unturned until we get swift justice on the unfortunate death of one of our youths. We want to see justice being done as quick as possible!”
