Kwara SWAN Hails Busari As Flamingos Win WAFU-B U17 Girls’ Cup

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State chapter, has congratulated Coach Akeem Busari on leading Nigeria’s U17 Women’s National Team, the Flamingos, to victory at the WAFU-B U17 Girls’ Cup in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.

Busari, who hails from Igbo-Owu in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, guided the Flamingos to a convincing 4-0 victory over Togo in Sunday’s final to claim the regional title.

The triumph capped an impressive campaign in which Nigeria won all five matches, scoring 17 goals and conceding only two.

The Flamingos defeated Niger Republic 5-0, Ghana 4-2, Burkina Faso 2-0, hosts Côte d’Ivoire 2-0 and Togo 4-0 en route to lifting the trophy.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Ayodeji Ismail, Kwara SWAN recalled that Busari had previously visited the state to conduct a training programme for grassroots coaches, during which members of the association interacted with him and wished him success with the Flamingos.

The association described his latest achievement as a source of pride to Kwara State and the Nigerian football family.

It commended Busari for demonstrating his coaching ability at the regional level and expressed confidence that he could lead the Flamingos to another strong performance at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco next month.

Kwara SWAN also congratulated the players and officials of the team, urging them to maintain their commitment, discipline and team spirit as they prepare for the global tournament.

The association noted that the Flamingos, bronze medallists at the 2022 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, had once again demonstrated their potential to compete at the highest level.

Kwara SWAN wished Busari and the Flamingos success in Morocco, expressing optimism that their WAFU-B triumph would provide a strong platform for another memorable World Cup campaign.
