The Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, has officially concluded his five-year tenure and handed over leadership of the Commission to Hon. Muhammad Usman Dattijo, the Federal Commissioner representing Niger State.
Hon. Dattijo will serve as Acting Chairman pending the swearing-in of the newly appointed chairman, Hon. Aminu Yusuf, by President Bola Tinubu.
The brief handover ceremony, held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, was attended by Federal Commissioners, the Director-General, Directors, and staff of the NPC.
It marked a smooth transition of leadership in accordance with public service procedures.
In his remarks, Hon. Kwarra expressed gratitude to the Commissioners, management, and staff for their unwavering support throughout his tenure.
He highlighted the Commission’s achievements in strengthening data systems, digitising the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) platform, and advancing preparations for the forthcoming National Population and Housing Census.
“These accomplishments were made possible through collective dedication and professionalism,” Kwarra said.
The event featured the signing of handover notes, presentation of a farewell gift to the outgoing chairman, and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
As Hon. Dattijo assumes leadership in an acting capacity, the Commission is expected to sustain its ongoing reforms and maintain momentum toward achieving its mandate ahead of the new chairman’s assumption of office.
