Sudan head coach James Kwesi Appiah has responded to rumours suggesting that he might return to Ghana as the Black Stars’ mentor.
The 64-year-old had two stints as the Black Stars mentor and he became the first black African coach to take the country to the FIFA World Cup when he guided the team to the 2014 edition.
Appiah recently guided Sudan to the 2025 AFCON finals, while his native, Ghana, endured a disappointing campaign and failed to book their spot in the tournament under Otto Addo.
Appiah ruled out the possibility of him being reappointed Ghana coach and made it known that he is focusing on his work as Sudan coach.
“If you are a professional coach, you will have to always keep in mind that you must be ready for any opportunity but as of now, I have a contract with Sudan,” Appiah said on Ghana Soccer Net.
“For now, I am focused on what I am doing with Sudan but for now, I don’t want to say anything because I don’t want to contradict myself.”
In October 2023, Appiah signed a three-year deal with the task of reviving Sudan and he has so far done well with the Falcons of Jediane.
