The Labour Party has expressed disappointment in the defection of Mr. Rhodes Gbadebo Vivour, the party’s governorship candidate in Lagos State during the 2023 elections.
The interim national publicity secretary, Labour party (LP), Prince Tony Akeni, in a statement released to newsmen yesterday in Abuja, reiterated its commitment to forming a rainbow coalition of opposition parties to defeat the APC in the 2027 elections
He said , “The Labour Party believes that a single opposition party may not be able to defeat the APC and President Tinubu in the upcoming elections. Therefore, the party is working with its presidential candidate, His Excellency Peter Obi, to engage in broad-based multi-party liaison with other opposition parties and critical APC stakeholders.”
He emphasized the importance of maintaining multi-party democracy and restoring its beauty in Nigeria and criticized Rhodes Vivour for defecting without following the example set by Peter Obi, who has remained loyal to the party.
Akeni advised politicians to “hurry slowly” and learn the imperative essentials of serving the people before making hasty decisions.
