The Labour Party in Anambra State has concluded its primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections, producing candidates for senatorial and House of Representatives seats across the state.

In a statement issued to journalists in Awka on Thursday, the state chairman of the party, Peter Okoye, said the exercise was conducted using the Option A4 voting system and recorded strong participation from members, delegates, aspirants, and stakeholders.

Okoye described the process as peaceful and transparent, adding that it reflected the party’s commitment to internal democracy and grassroots participation.

He said the party would fully support all nominated candidates, assuring that the leadership and members would work collectively to secure victory in the 2027 general elections.

“We are pleased that the exercise was peaceful and transparent and reflected the party’s commitment to internal democracy and grassroots participation,” he said.

Okoye also noted that the candidates were duly ratified and affirmed by a majority of delegates and members at a special nomination congress conducted in line with the Labour Party Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, and the party’s Electoral Guidelines 2026.

“The exercise was conducted through the Option A4 voting system, and it witnessed strong participation by our members, delegates, aspirants and stakeholders,” he added.

“We assure our candidates that the leadership and members of the party will work hard to secure victory for all of them during the 2027 general elections.”

The party presented candidates for various constituencies, including Venerable Tochukwu Ikezue for Anambra Central Senatorial District; Chief Ikenna Okafor for Nnewi North/Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency; Mrs Ifeoma Obiokoye for Anaocha, Dunukofia and Njikoka Federal Constituency; and Ujunwa Onyekachi for Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency.

Chairman of the Electoral Committee and Returning Officer, Mr Iduma-Christian Mayor, who announced the results, said the candidates emerged as sole aspirants of the party.

The exercise was also observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Labour Party candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial District, Venerable Tochukwu Ikezue, thanked INEC for monitoring the process and pledged that if elected in 2027, he would focus on addressing erosion challenges in the senatorial zone, empowering constituents, and ensuring inclusive representation.
