In compliance with the suspension of the strike action embarked upon by members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), the leadership of the unions in Oyo State have reopened the state’s secretariat.

The unions had earlier on Tuesday blocked the entrance gates to the secretariat while enforcing the sit-at-home directive and going round various ministries, departments and agencies to chase out workers who reported for duty.

The labour leaders who were stationed at the entrance gate, insisted on not allowing anyone entrance into the secretariat.

Food vendors, however were taking advantage of the situation to sell food and water to some stranded workers at the gates.

However, shortly after the directive on suspension of the strike filtered in, the state’s TUC chairman, Comrade Bosun Olabiyi quickly summoned all laboury leaders at the premises, briefed them and directed an immediate compliance with the national directive.

The Secretariat still remains deserted despite the re-opening of the gates as at the time of filing this report as workers who stayed away from work and those who were turned back could not return to work at the time the strike was suspended.

But people who have businesses within and around the secretariat were having unhindered access to the government office.

Security at the secretariat was still very tight.

Also, banks and federal institutions were yet to re-open for businesses as at the time of this report in the state.
