Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Katsina State Councils, have called on Governor Dikko Radda to extend the ‘Rumbu Sauki’ initiative to civil servants in the state.

The programme, aimed at providing affordable goods and services to the residents, has been lauded for its potential to reduce financial burdens on families. The organised labour expressed the belief that including civil servants in the scheme would enhance its impact by addressing the economic challenges faced by workers.

In a joint statement signed by NLC state chairman, Comrade Hussaini Yanduna and TUC chairman, Comrade Muntari Ruma, the unions emphasised that extending the programme to workers would align with the government’s ongoing commitment to improving the welfare of civil servants.

The organised labour acknowledged Governor Radda’s numerous worker-focused initiatives, including the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage, payment of gratuity backlogs and the provision of free healthcare for retirees.

They however stressed the need for additional measures to cushion the effects of the rising cost of living on workers and their families.

“While the Rumbu Sauki programme is commendable, extending its benefits to civil servants would provide the much-needed relief and strengthen their economic stability,” the statement read.

The unions commended the administration for its focus on economic empowerment and infrastructure development, noting that such initiatives have created jobs and improved living conditions. They urged the government to continue prioritising workers’ welfare through inclusive programmes.

The NLC and TUC expressed confidence in Governor Radda’s leadership and reiterated their commitment to working collaboratively with the government to ensure the continued progress of Katsina State.
