Lagos Assembly Summons Commissioner, Others Over Contractual Agreements

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have summoned  the state’s Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development Mr. Omotayo Bamgbose -Martins and Special Adviser for Public Private Partnership (PPP), Mr. Ope George to furnish the House with information on their refusal to make recourse to it for ratification before they signed contracts.

Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Wasiu Eshinlokun-Sanni, who represented the speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa  ratified the decision of the house that the aforementioned individuals be summoned to avail members with required details to give a clearer picture and guard against the untoward development.

The summon was sequel to a matter of urgent public importance raised by Hon. Nureni Akinsanya, representing Mushin Constituency  1 adding that the House should look at the flagrant disregard for the laws of the state on contractual agreements.

While citing some PPP contracts entered into without following due process, “they posited that all contracts should be put on hold for now.

Hon. Rotimi Olowo, representing Shomolu Constituency 1, said the main centre on the financial implication and ability to determine state deficit.

“I think it is high time we did something to strengthen the respective committee to check and allow the house to deal with it,” he said.

Hon Lukmon Olumoh was quick to note that many of the MDA’s  have not met the standard in respect of due process.

According to him, many of them ran foul of legal provisions for contractual purposes, adding that the ratification of the House is to protect the interest of the state as well as investors.

Hon. Temitope Adewale also averred that there is need for ratification of the House in the interest of people and the state because of unforeseen circumstances that could lead to litigation.
