The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns to April 14, 2026, giving taxpayers an additional two-week window to comply.
The extension shifts the original deadline from Wednesday, April 1, following the statutory March 31 filing requirement observed annually.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday night and signed by Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, Head of Corporate Communications at LIRS.
In the statement , the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr. Ayodele Subair, was quoted as saying the decision was aimed at allowing individuals more time to complete and submit accurate returns.
“The statutory deadline for filing of individual annual tax returns is March 31, every year,” Subair stated, adding that “the extension is intended to provide individuals with additional time to complete and submit accurate tax returns.”
He urged taxpayers to prioritise compliance, stressing that timely filing should become a routine personal obligation.
“Individuals must give priority to the timely filing of their annual income tax returns,” he said, noting that “compliance should be embedded as a routine personal practice.”
Subair also reiterated that the LIRS eTax platform remains the sole channel for filing returns, emphasising that manual submissions have been completely discontinued.
“Electronic filing through the LIRS eTax platform remains the only approved method for submitting annual returns, as manual filings have been completely phased out,” he said.
He described the platform as secure, user-friendly and accessible round the clock, while advising taxpayers to ensure that their Tax Identification Number (TaxID) is accurately captured during submission.
