A non-athlete woman involved in an incident with an ambulance during the 11th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon on Saturday, February 14, is now in a stable condition and receiving comprehensive medical care, confirmed Gbenga Omotoso, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy.
Mr Omotoso stated that the incident occurred within the event area and involved a non-athlete who came into contact with an ambulance transporting athletes requiring medical attention.
“Emergency crews were immediately alerted and the ambulance stopped. The woman received prompt on-site medical assessment and care before being transferred to a public health facility for further evaluation.”
She sustained bruises and reported chest pains, but her vital signs were stable at the scene.
She is currently responding positively to treatment, with the Ministry of Health and the Sports Commission closely monitoring her progress. Senior government officials have visited her in hospital.
A full investigation into the circumstances of the incident is now underway.
