Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday inaugurated Nigeria’s first Integrated Energy Hub in Oshodi area of the state, saying the facility remains a major milestone in the country’s transition to cleaner, affordable and sustainable energy solutions.

The facility, developed by Ibile Oil and Gas Corporation (IOGC), a Lagos State Government-owned company, combines Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and a CNG vehicle conversion centre within a single location.

In his address at the inauguration, Sanwo-Olu said the project goes beyond the opening of a conventional filling station but represents a practical demonstration of Nigeria’s energy transition agenda.

He said, “Some might think that today is just a simple gas station opening ceremony, but this is much more than that. Today, we are inaugurating the first integrated energy hub in our country.

It is a repository of our targeted interventions in energy transition and a clear demonstration of what the future of mobility and energy infrastructure should look like.”

The governor noted that the facility aligns with the Federal Government’s Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG) initiative and reflects Lagos State’s commitment to supporting policies that promote cleaner and more affordable transportation.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for providing the leadership and policy direction that encouraged investments in alternative energy infrastructure.

“President Tinubu has created the enabling environment for affordable, cleaner and more sustainable transportation solutions. It is now the responsibility of government agencies and stakeholders to translate that vision into reality,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He said the energy hub will help reduce transportation costs, stimulate economic activities, create jobs and improve access to cleaner energy sources for residents and businesses.

Sanwo-Olu pointed out that the facility was deliberately located in Oshodi because of its status as one of the busiest commercial and transportation centres in the country.

“We intentionally brought this project to Oshodi because we want the benefits to be felt first by ordinary Nigerians. This is where the impact on transportation costs and energy access will be most significant,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu described the project as a practical example of how collaboration between the Federal Government, state governments and private-sector stakeholders can deliver meaningful development.

He urged relevant federal agencies and stakeholders in the energy sector to support similar projects across the country, stressing that Lagos remains ready to partner with others in advancing Nigeria’s energy transition agenda.

“This project shows what is possible when national policy aligns with state vision and when agencies are prepared to innovate. Lagos is ready to support every initiative that advances cleaner energy and affordable transportation for our people,” he added.

Earlier, the managing director of Ibile Oil and Gas Corporation, Mr. Temitayo Gbajumo, described the facility as the first integrated energy hub of its kind in Nigeria and possibly Africa.
