Lagos HoS Retires To Pick Presidential Appointment

Head Of Service (HOS) of the Lagos State Government, Hakeem Muri-Okunola yesterday formally retired from the state’s civil service and confirmed his presidential appointment.

The presidency had on Sunday announced the appointment of Muri-Okunola as principal secretary to President Bola Tinubu.

Muri-Okunola in a statement announced he would be stepping down from his role as the 21st HOS of Lagos while also retiring from the State Civil Service.

“I informed Mr Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of my voluntary retirement from the Lagos State Civil Service after nearly five years of being your head of sService,” Muri-Okunola said.

“It has been a really fulfilling journey and experience, one that I will cherish for the rest of my life,” he said.

Muri-Okunola thanked the entire public service for their support during the entirety of his tenure as their servant leader because they all made him shine.

He added that they helped him clear the doubts of the naysayers, gave him confidence and inspired his modest but fulfilled service.

“I appreciate you all individually and collaboratively as a family. We took the Lagos State Public Service to become the most vibrant and excellent public service in Nigeria in particular and sub-Saharan Africa in general as the most professional workforce,” he said.

“I move on to serve the man who inspired and brought me into public service and to take it as a career which eventually took me to the zenith as your Head Of Service.

“I will be taking on a new role in The Presidency to assist and contribute my quota in achieving The Renewed Hope agenda of our President And Commander In Chief, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” he added.

Muri-Okunola said he feels humbled and privileged to be taking on this new challenge, saying he is counting on the continued support, cooperation and prayers of the public.

He further congratulated whoever emerges as his successor, and the 22nd head of service Of Lagos and requested Lagosians to give him or her all the support.
