The lawmaker representing Surulere II Federal Constituency of Lagos State in the House of Representatives, Lanre Okunlola, has said he sponsored 19 legislative initiatives and facilitated the construction or rehabilitation of more than 80 inner roads within three years.

Okunlola disclosed this in a performance report released by his office, highlighting his interventions in infrastructure, healthcare, education, water supply, electricity and economic empowerment across the constituency.

According to the lawmaker, the 19 legislative initiatives focused on healthcare, education, entrepreneurship, economic diversification, infrastructure, flood management and public accountability.

Among the bills he listed are proposals for the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre, Orile; Federal College of Education, Ijesha; National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Itire; and National Institute for Creative and Performing Arts, Itire.

Others include the Nigeria Climate Change Fund Bill, National Flood Insurance Bill, Nigerian Rural Health Care Trust Fund Bill, Agricultural Development and Modernisation Bill and the Ease of Doing Business Act Amendment Bill.

On infrastructure, Okunlola said more than 80 inner streets had been constructed or rehabilitated across Orile, Coker, Aguda, Itire, Ijesha and Ikate.

He added that about 20 kilometres of inner and township roads had either been completed or were undergoing rehabilitation in parts of Coker, Aguda, Itire and Ijesha.

The lawmaker also disclosed plans for the installation of nine solar-powered boreholes across the six communities to improve access to potable water.

He listed the facilitation of a new transformer among his interventions in the power sector, saying the initiative was aimed at addressing electricity supply challenges within the constituency.

In the healthcare sector, Okunlola said his office had organised free medical outreaches targeting residents, particularly elderly people and women.

He also cited skills acquisition programmes designed for youths, women, artisans and widows, with beneficiaries trained in areas including make-up, soap and cream production, bead-making, costume-making and film production.

According to him, some beneficiaries also received equipment and start-up support to enable them to establish or expand their businesses.

In education, the lawmaker said his office had provided 1,000 free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, application forms annually to prospective candidates in the constituency.

He also listed the construction of classroom blocks at Sanya Primary School and Aiyetoro Primary School, Aguda, among his education interventions.

Other initiatives highlighted in the report included the distribution of rice palliatives and grants to traders, pensioners and senior citizens.

Okunlola said his representation had combined legislative duties, oversight and constituency engagement with the facilitation of development projects.

He urged residents to assess his representation based on documented interventions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“As the 2027 elections approach, I respectfully ask the people of Surulere II to judge me not by promises but by our record of performance,” he said.

The lawmaker pledged to complete ongoing projects and sustain interventions in education, healthcare, infrastructure and economic empowerment across the constituency.
