The Lagos State Police Command has tendered a public apology to #EndSARS activist, Obianuju Catherine Udeh, popularly known as DJ Switch, over viral reports of her purported arrest by the Police on the account of assaulting a Police officer in Lagos.

Earlier on Thursday, a section of the media was awash with the report of DJ Switch’s arrest and arraignment in court for assaulting a Police officer.

But, DJ Switch immediately debunked the news report via her X handle (formerly Twitter), saying she woke up to a barrage of phone calls and messages on Thursday morning to the news of her purported arrest, describing the report as a fake news.

She, therefore, asked the publishers of the news reports to immediately retract same or face possible lawsuit for their ation, which described as ‘defamation’ of her character.

However, the Lagos State Police Command, which earlier gave out the information, has clarified the mixup even as it apologised to some media organisations that were also misled.

Taking to his personal X handle (formerly Twitter) shortly thereafter, spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said DJ Commissioner Wysei was the suspect arrested and not DJ Switch.

The PPRO wrote: “There is a mixup from our end. Arrested person is DJ Commissioner Wysei not DJ Switch.

“Apologies for all inconveniences to a few media outfits like Lindaikeji, BBC and TVC that I gave confirmation this morning.

“Apologies to DJ Switch too.”
