The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have initiated high-level talks as Lagos steps up its preparations to host the 2026 National Intermediate Games for Under-18 athletes.
A distinguished delegation from the Lagos State Sports Commission, headed by Director General Mr Lekan Fatodu, was welcomed by Professor Foluso Lesi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), at the university’s Senate Building. Discussions, involving senior LSSC officials and members of the UNILAG Sports Council, underscored a mutual dedication to delivering a world-class sporting event, consistent with Lagos’s commitment to sporting excellence.
Lagos State has a strong track record of successfully hosting major sporting events, including Game X, the Festival of Table Tennis, the African Senior Fencing Championship, the Zen Archery Lagos International Open, and the Africa School Games. This success has cemented its reputation as a leading destination for sports promotion in Nigeria and across Africa.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to form joint working groups and set clear timelines to ensure smooth coordination leading up to the Games. This reinforces Lagos State’s ambition to deliver a meticulously organised, athlete-focused, and impactful National Intermediate Games, significantly contributing to Nigeria’s sports development.
