Success Box in partnership with the Lagos State government has splashed N2 million on six public school students who emerged the best in the 2023 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

The six students were drawn from each of the six Education Districts in the State. They are Akinkuowo Daniel Olatishe, Akintunde Naomi, Jacob Ekeminabassi, Mulero Rahael, Bello Rihamat Ajoke and Asokere Mawanu.

Akinkuowo Daniel Olatishe emerged as the best WAEC student in Lagos public schools. He got seven ‘As’ and two ‘B’. He was rewarded with N1 million. Others got N200,000 each.

The award was sponsored by Success Box.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, said the award coming from Success Box is quite encouraging and would encourage the students to work harder.

He said the award is to showcase students with excellent academic performance, by churning out distinctions in the WAEC examination.

Alli-Balogun said the performance of the students showed that public schools could compete with others in academic prowess.

He added that the tokens given to the students would help boost their careers.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), of Chronicles Softwares, Oluwatosin Koyejo, founder of Success Box, said Success Box is a mobile service platform to empower students to excel.

“Today we brought together the best students across Lagos public schools to celebrate them for their academic strides and the selection was based purely on merit, that is why we put together the success box excellence award.

“The first award started in 2016, we had it in 2017 and 2018 and now we are having this edition for 2023, what the award has done over the years is to ensure that we spotlight outstanding academic achievements and we ensure we provide them with cash gifts to appreciate them for all their efforts,” he said.

Koyejo added “This year, we committed N2 million to support the best WAEC students across public schools in Lagos State and the goal is to ensure that students who did extremely well are rewarded not just with a handshake but with something commensurate with their efforts.

“It is our own commitment to driving and supporting education across all dimensions. As a company, we started 17 years ago. I started as a final year university student myself. So whatever we need to encourage young people to excel and push them to greater heights is what we are committed to do.”

Koyejo stated that Success Box would increase the award to N5 million next year so that more students could be catered for.
