The Lagos State Government has announced the inaugural Lagos Sustainability Summit, a major initiative to promote sustainable development and environmental protection.
The summit is organised by the office of Dr Oreoluwa Finnih, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in partnership with the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) and the Lagos State Government Safety Commission.
The event is scheduled for September 12, 2024, at Eko Hotel & Suites. The ‘Building a Resilient and Sustainable Lagos’ summit aims to foster dialogue and action on sustainable development, environmental protection, and social responsibility.
It will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, and exhibitions, focusing on five key areas, namely: Government Commitment to Sustainability, Community Engagement and Inclusion,
Ethical Business Practices and Social Impact, Sustainable Finance, and Sustainable Supply Chains.
At a press conference held on August 22 at the Radisson Hotel in Ikeja, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih underscored the urgency of collective action towards sustainability. “We stand at a crossroads, and our choices today will determine the Lagos of tomorrow.
We must innovate, adapt, and lead the way towards a resilient and sustainable city,” she stated.
Dr Finnih was joined by key figures, including Dr Jide Babatunde, Special Adviser on E-GIS; Mr Lanre Mojola, Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission; Dr Babatunde Ajayi, General Manager of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency; and Mr Lekan Balogun, Special Adviser on Budget and Planning.
The summit is expected to draw diverse stakeholders, including leaders from government, business, civil society, and academia, united in pursuing Lagos’s sustainable future. Registration for the event is now open, and interested participants are encouraged to register via the summit’s official website.
