Professor Kilani Olusuyi was inaugurated yesterday as president of the University of Ilorin Alumni Association.

Olusuyi’s election as the new leader climaxed the election that was preceded by the association’s national congress, which drew delegates from 32 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja chapters.

The new president will lead the association alongside his executive members for four years.

Lukman Fagbemi (SAN) was also elected and inaugurated as the national legal adviser of the alumni association.

Olusuyi scored 125 votes to beat his closest rival, Babs Omotowa, who scored 34.

Engr Iswat Lawal was elected the new national vice president, Dr Raji Barakat became the national secretary, and Mary Oluchi became the assistant general secretary after defeating their rivals.

Agboola Ganiyat-Temitope was declared the new national treasurer after polling 117 votes, just as Isaac Iortimbir emerged as the national financial secretary after polling 143 votes.

Chief Olorunsuwa Ola polled 121 votes to emerge as the national publicity secretary, while Hussein Dasola recorded 55 votes to beat other contenders to emerge as the new national organising secretary.

Ahmed Abdulrasheed also emerged as the national auditor.

Shortly after the election, Prof Jeleel Ojuade, chairman and coordinator of the Interim national executive, said the election marked a departure from the past.

Ojuade, the vice-chancellor of Ojaja University, Ilorin, congratulated the new executives and said they are expected to deliver and unite the association for the good of all.
