LASTMA Officials Arrest Hit-and-run Truck Driver In Lagos

A Flour Mills company’s driver was on Monday apprehended by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), after hitting a pedestrian in Lagos.

The unnamed driver had fled the scene of the accident after knocking down a pedestrian at Anthony Oke in Oshodi area of Lagos State.

According to a statement by LASTMA’s Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Taofiq Adebayo, the pedestrian sustained a serious injury, including a broken left leg.

“LASTMA has successfully apprehended a truck driver involved in a hit-and-run incident earlier today (Monday) at Anthony Oke, heading towards Oshodi. The driver, operating a trailer owned by Honeywell Flour Mill Plc (registration number JJJ 764 XV), was apprehended after hitting a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the expressway near the Total Filling Station at Anthony Oke, inward Oshodi.” Taofiq said.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, generated concerns among eyewitnesses and commuters.

The injured pedestrian was promptly attended to by personnel from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) and taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Adebayo stated that the fleeing driver was, however, apprehended and handed over to the Police for further investigation.

“LASTMA officials on duty at the time responded swiftly, pursuing the fleeing driver and apprehending him at Oshodi.

“He has since been handed over to officers from Mosafejo Police Station for further investigation and prosecution.

“The agency will continue to collaborate closely with law enforcement to bring traffic offenders to justice,” the statement read.
