LASU Students Emerge Champions Of 2024 Cavista Hackathon

Three students of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo have emerged as the champions of the 2024 edition of the Cavista Hackathon.

Cavista Hackathon a prestigious competition aimed at fostering innovation and creativity among Nigerian youths was concluded with resounding success

The students won after showcasing groundbreaking solutions in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with their project “Eternal AI.”

Team Jupiter, comprising Dauda Yusuf, Akinyemi Temiye, and Eziamaka Michael, received the top honour and a prize of N1 million for their innovative approach to using AI in dermatological care.
Their project, “Eternal AI,” demonstrated the profound impact technology can have on healthcare, particularly in providing accessible and efficient dermatological services.

In a closely contested competition, Team Techmed from LASU secured the second position with their project “Rescue Link,” earning them a prize of N750,000. The team, consisting of Nelson Nana Onuoha, Fadeyi Abiola, and Balogun Ayodimeji, impressed the judges with their solution focused on leveraging AI for emergency medical assistance.

Claiming the third spot is Team Farmceries from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), whose project “Health Al” centered on diet and nutrition. Comprising Saka Suliat, Balogun Basit and Fadeyi David, the team received a prize of N500,000 for their commendable efforts.

 

 

 

At the event, the minister of state for youth development, Ayodele Olawande, applauded Cavista Technologies for organising the Hackathon and reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting youth initiatives.

He charged the participants to continue to strive for excellence, underscoring their pivotal role in shaping the future of AI in Nigeria.

He said, “The Cavista Hackathon serves as a platform for young Nigerian talents to showcase their creativity and problem-solving skills while addressing real-world challenges. As the country continues its journey towards technological advancement, initiatives like these play a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of innovators”.

Welcoming the participants from LASU, UNILAG, and Yaba College of Technology to the session, Mr. Dele Odufuye, the executive director of Cavista, emphasised the importance of their contributions to the advancement of technology in Nigeria.
