The family of the late former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has expressed appreciation to the Kogi State Government for its support and solidarity following his death, and pledged full cooperation with the government in his burial.
The family’s position came against the backdrop of a report by an online medium alleging that it had rejected the burial arrangements being made by the state government for the late former governor.
However, receiving members of the burial committee constituted by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, the head of the family, Alhaji Haruna Idris, commended the state government for its support and the decision to take full responsibility for the burial arrangements.
According to Kingsley Femi Fanwo, Commissioner for Information and Communications, the burial committee is headed by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Joel Salifu Oyibo.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Alhaji Haruna expressed appreciation to Governor Ododo and the state government for the responsibility and respect accorded the late former governor, particularly the government’s decision to give him a befitting state burial.
He said the family was deeply grateful for the support extended to it at the difficult moment, assuring the committee of its readiness to work closely with the government to ensure a dignified and befitting burial for the former governor.
Addressing the family, Deputy Governor Oyibo described the death of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris as a colossal loss to Kogi State, noting that the late former governor was a widely respected and loved leader.
“It is a huge loss to the entire state. We have lost a colossus and a leader who was loved and respected by all. As a government, we will give him a befitting state burial,” the deputy governor said.
Oyibo assured the family that the state government would work closely with it to ensure that all necessary arrangements were made for a dignified burial in honour of the former governor.
Following the formal interaction, members of the burial committee and representatives of the late governor’s family held a closed-door meeting to deliberate on matters concerning the family and burial arrangements.
Members of the committee who accompanied the deputy governor included the Secretary to the Kogi State Government, Mrs Folashade Arike Ayoade; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Ali Bello; Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo; Commissioner for Transportation, Victor Atuluku; Director-General of Protocol, Mallam Suleiman Ibrahim; Special Adviser to the Governor, Prince Bashir Abubakar Audu; and other senior government officials.
