Ghana pushed forward in search of another equaliser during the closing stages, but Croatia defended resolutely to preserve their advantage and secure a memorable victory.

The result sees Croatia advance to the last 32 as Group L runners-up, where they will be aiming to build momentum in pursuit of another deep run at the World Cup.

Despite the defeat, Ghana also progressed to the knockout phase after finishing among the tournament’s best third-placed teams. Otto Addo’s side had already guaranteed their place in the next round before the match and will now shift their focus to preparing for what promises to be a challenging last-32 encounter.

Croatia’s victory also extinguished Scotland’s slim hopes of reaching the knockout stages, as the Scots were left unable to make up the deficit required to qualify.
