Britain’s monarch, King Charles III, has reacted to the arrest of his younger brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, stating that “the law must take its course.”
LEADERSHIP reports that the arrest followec the release of more than three million documents by the US Department of Justice, widely referred to as the “Epstein Files,” which have cast renewed scrutiny on the former Duke of York’s association with the late convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.
According to a statement sighted on CNN, King Charles said he received the news of his brother’s arrest “with the deepest concern,” stressing that due process must be allowed to run its full course.
“I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office,” the King said in the statement.
“What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation.”
The monarch further emphasised the independence of the justice process, declaring, “Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.”
King Charles added that he would refrain from further public comment as investigations continued, noting that it would be inappropriate to do so while legal proceedings were ongoing.
“As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all,” the statement read.
