LCCI Elects Leye Kupoluyi As President

The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has elected Leye Kupoluyi as its 44th President and Chairman of Council, following the completion of Gabriel Idahosa’s tenure.

Kupoluyi, an engineer and Deputy President of the Chamber until his election, takes over from Idahosa, who assumed office on December 7, 2023.

The Director-General of LCCI, Dr. Chinyere Almona, announced the election during the Chamber’s 137th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Thursday at Commerce House, Victoria Island, Lagos.

She said, “Engr. Leye Kupoluyi was elected President after a duly conducted election at the Chamber’s 137th AGM. He is an accomplished professional with an exceptional record of leadership, dedication, and service across engineering services, trade promotion, and industry development.”

Almona expressed confidence that Kupoluyi’s emergence will strengthen the Chamber’s leadership in policy advocacy and business development.

She added, “We are delighted to welcome Engr. Kupoluyi as President of the LCCI. He has consistently provided valuable insights during strategic deliberations, and we are confident that his presidency will further enhance the Chamber’s role as a leading advocate for sound business policies.”

The Chamber added that Kupoluyi’s election reflects his longstanding commitment to its ideals and his contributions to promoting a more competitive environment for Nigerian businesses.

Kupoluyi is a businessman with over 40 years of experience spanning power engineering, facilities management, renewable energy, and commerce.

He began his career in 1979 at the Federal Ministry of Communications, later rising through the ranks at Honeywell Enterprises Ltd. and Witt & Busch Ltd., to become General Manager.

In 1995, he founded Universal Power Systems Nigeria Limited, where he currently serves as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

He is a Chartered Engineer in the United Kingdom, holds an MBA in Technology Management from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, and completed a Senior Management Course at the University of Manchester.

His professional affiliations include Fellowship of the Institute of Management Consultants and membership of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (UK). He has also served on the Bilateral and Multilateral Committee of NACCIMA and on the Governing Council of LASUSTECH from 2015 to 2019.

Within the LCCI, Kupoluyi has held several leadership roles, including Chairman of the Science & Engineering Group, Chairman of the Trade Promotion Board, and Deputy President.

Under his leadership, the Trade Promotion Board introduced the Tech Hub Project and the 2022 free-entry initiative, which increased innovation and participation at the Lagos International Trade Fair.

He is also active in community and church service and has earned several honours, including the ECOWAS International Gold Award, the Rotary International Entrepreneurship Service Award, and the Gold Award for Excellence in Business Practice.
