A seven-member Panel of Enquiry has been constituted by the chairman, Board of Management of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) Ado–Ekiti, Dr Adedamola Dada, to look into the alleged case of kidney harvest from a patient in the tertiary hospital.

The patient, one Joshua Afolayan, who had a surgery recently in the facility, had alleged that medical staff at the hospital removed one of his kidneys without his consent.

Afolayan, who is a teacher in the employ of the Ekiti State government, recounted that he suffered an accident in August 2025, and he was informed by hospital staff that one of his kidneys had been damaged.

He stated that multiple scans, including those from UCH, Ibadan, Oyo State, confirmed that his right kidney was impaired, while his left kidney was functioning well.

Afolayan, however, claimed that despite urinating just five minutes before the surgery to remove the damaged kidney, he has been unable to urinate since the procedure in October and all hos attempts to seek clarification from the hospital were not successful.

He said on getting to another medical facility to make clarification on his state of health, it was discovered that he had been living without any kidney since the operation was carried out, urging the government to investigate the matter thoroughly, as he continued to suffer serious pain.

However, a statement by the Head, Corporate Affairs, EKSUTH, Rolake Adewumi, said members of the panel included an Anatomic Pathologist from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Lagos, Prof. Francis Fadiyile , who will serve as the chairman of the panel.
