An All Progressive Congress (APC) Women Group, has appealed to the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkiruka Onyejeocha to consider going back to the House of Representatives where it believes she can make more impacts on the lives of Nigerians.
The Group known as North Central Amazons For Bola Ahmed Tinubu, made the appeal while congratulating the former House Deputy Chief Whip on her victory at the tribunal.
The National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, had on Wednesday declared Onyejeocha of the APC as winner of election for the Isiukwuato/ Umunneochi federal constituency of Abia State.
The former lawmaker was appointed minister by President Bola Tinubu while her case against Ogah who has since vowed to appeal the judgement was pending at the tribunal.
The Group in a statement by the convener, Lynda Adzuanaga, agitated for the return of Hon. Onyejeocha to the Green Chamber, base on the decision of the tribunal.
“As a women’s group, we are well aware of her exceptional qualities, which we believe spurred Mr President, to nominate and further confirm her as Minister.
“We are also conversant, with the fact that her forte is the parliament and she will be of immense significance, more benefit and support to the party, her constituency, women and indeed Nigeria as a whole as a legislator.
“In a National Assembly of limited women and specifically, a paltry 16 women out of the 360 House of Representative members, Honourable Onyejeocha one of our finest, a key player in our First 11 is definitely a sine qua non.
“We strongly believe, that with the return of Honourable Onyejeocha to the House of Representatives, more women and people oriented bills, will be introduced and passed into law for the collective good and benefit of all Nigerians.
“We are committed to ensuring that someday in the future, with the fact that she’s a ranking member, our collective dream of her becoming a Speaker of the House of Representatives, will become a reality,” she said.
Adzuanaga also expressed deep conviction and belief, that Onyejeocha belongs to the Green Chambers of the National Assembly and should stage a return.
She said:”Our reasons are obvious; we want to see more women at the National Assembly; women with outstanding qualities and experience. That there was a significant drop in the number of women representatives from the last general elections, we see this judgment in her favour as an opportunity to make for what we lost during the last general elections.
“…Mention must be made of her bravery, outspokenness and resilience as legislator. In her sojourn as a legislator, she sponsored a plethora of bills, moved motions on the floor of the House for the good and wellbeing of the people.
“Her influence, capacity and ability as a member of parliament, can be seen in the many roles she played as Chairman House Committee on Aviation, Chairman Committee on Navy, Chairman House Committee on Women in Parliament and serving as member of several other Committees in the House.
“It is pertinent to state, that in the 9th Assembly, she was one of the leading contenders for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives and indeed, the only woman who stepped up, to throw her hat in the ring for this very important election.”
