Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, has charged Nigerians to use the Lenten season to turn away from sin and reconcile with God.

Addressing the congregation during an Ash Wednesday service at the Cathedral Church of Advent, Life Camp, Abuja, the primate lamented that wickedness, atrocities, and corruption have become the order of the day in the country.

He charged those in positions of authority to champion a good cause and prioritise the welfare of ordinary citizens.

He described the current situation as one where the downtrodden struggle to survive while a select few live in affluence.

According to him, kidnapping, terrorism, corruption, and other ungodly activities have taken centre stage in the nation.

The Primate passionately appealed to Nigerians to use the fasting period to seek the face of God and pray for divine intervention.

He also emphasised the need for the Federal Government to take drastic action against those perpetrating wickedness.

He reminded Nigerians that God’s judgement awaits anyone who refuses to turn away from evil and do good to humanity.

He assured that the Church would use the 40-day Lenten period to uproot the works of the devil and pray for permanent peace in the country.

The service featured the placing of ashes on members, symbolising the biblical passage: “For dust you are, and to dust you shall return” (Genesis 3:19).
