Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zaka Maikalangu, has called for improved service delivery and accountability within the council, warning against the leakage of sensitive information.

He urged the staff to comply strictly with directives from their superiors.

Maikalangu made this known during a working visit by the administrative secretary of the Area Council Services Commission, Mrs. E. Yakusak to AMAC.

He emphasised discipline and loyalty among staff, stating, “staff should follow the instructions of their directors and department heads without question. Public servants should defend council decisions and policies at all costs.”

The chairman stressed the importance of transparency and accountability, warning that misconduct would not be tolerated.

“Staff found guilty of misconduct will face consequences, including possible redeployment or dismissal,” he said.

While acknowledging the hard work of AMAC employees in delivering rural infrastructure and services, Maikalangu urged them to remain diligent in fulfilling the council’s mandate.

He highlighted key focus areas, including community empowerment through social programmes, healthcare services, and economic initiatives, as well as support for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and rural residents.

“We must work together to achieve our goals while maintaining the highest standards of integrity,” he said.

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) commended Maikalangu for his leadership and dedication to staff welfare.

The union particularly lauded his efforts in ensuring the payment of hazard allowances and addressing staff concerns promptly.

The union leader, Comrade Hassan Haruna, expressed his appreciation, saying, “Since my employment in AMAC, I have never been happier. The chairman has shown empathy and support, especially in times of need.”

Haruna urged Maikalangu to sustain his staff-friendly policies while calling on the council to prioritise workers’ rights and welfare.

The chairman reaffirmed his commitment to effective service delivery, urging unity and professionalism among staff to meet the expectations of AMAC residents.
