Mohammed Salah will miss Liverpool’s FA Cup third-round clash against Arsenal this Sunday.

Salah has joined up with the Egypt squad ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, and it remains to be seen how Liverpool will cope in his absence.

Harvey Elliott could be chosen to replace Salah on the right wing.

Dominik Szoboszlai has been ruled out with the hamstring injury he suffered against Newcastle on New Year Day.

Wataru Endo is at the Asian Cup with Japan.

On Szoboszlai’s injury, Jurgen Klopp said: “I can confirm it’s not a potential injury – it is an injury. Muscle, hamstring. But now we have to see.”

Szoboszlai will also miss the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Fulham on Wednesday.

Klopp said: “Dom is very positive, doesn’t have a lot of pain, but we have to wait a little bit. So, no chance obviously for Sunday, not for Wednesday, and then we will see. After that, hopefully he might be back but we don’t know.”

Alexis Mac Allister and Diogo Jota could both be handed starting berths against Arsenal as they look to complete their comebacks from injury.

Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic, Ben Doak, Joel Matip, Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are long-term injury absentees.

Klopp would usually be expected to rotate his side in the early stages of the FA Cup, but he has hinted at fielding a strong team for a high-profile clash between Premier League title rivals.
