Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman was involved in a heated confrontation with his Atalanta manager, Ivan Juric, on Wednesday night, after he was substituted during their UEFA Champions League (UCL) clash against Marseille.
The incident occurred in the 74th minute when Juric replaced Lookman with Yunus Musah. As the Nigerian international walked off the pitch apparently dissatisfied, television cameras captured a tense exchange between the duo, during which Juric appeared to grab and shove Lookman, who tried to ingnore the coah.
However, Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi and midfielder Marten de Roon quickly stepped in to defuse the situation.
Following the match, which Atalanta won 1-0, Juric reportedly approached Lookman again for a brief conversation, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Lookman’s relationship with the club has drawn renewed attention in light of the latest faceoff. The forward previously clashed with former Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who once described him as “the worst penalty taker” he had ever seen.
After an unsuccessful attempt to leave the club during the summer, this latest episode has fueled further speculation about Lookman’s future with the Serie A side.
