The member representing Anambra East/Anambra West federal constituency of Anambra state in the National Assembly, Hon. Peter Anekwe, has distributed 900 bags of fertiliser to farmers in his federal constituency to empower them to embark on dry season farming activities.
The lawmaker also distributed 3,000 bags of 10kg rice to the indigent members of the federal constituency to assist them celebrate the Christmas and New Year festivities joyfully.
Addressing the beneficiaries at Orum-Etiti area of Anambra -West local government area during the fertiliser distribution to farmers cutting across the 25 wards of the federal constituency, Anekwe urged them to take advantage of the rich agricultural potentials of their area and embark on dry season farming to maximise the huge income agriculture offers currently due to the prevailing nationwide food scarcity.
He reminded them that their federal constituency as coastal zone and fertile in cultivation of virtually all major agricultural produce including yam, cassava, maize, fish, and, vegetables they should embark on aggressive farming to maximise the gains from agriculture and help the country fight the menace of food insecurity currently facing the citizens.
“I am aware of the economic situation in Nigeria and President Tinubu is doing everything possible to reduce the inflation rate”, the Labour Party federal lawmaker told his constituents.
He stated that he deliberately made sure that the items would be distributed to the constituents devoid of political or tribal inclination as according to him his interest was to make sure that the beneficiaries of the fertilizer and the rice were people that actually needed the gesture. “I’m doing all of these because I love my people and I want them to be happy.
Emphasising why he chose to distribute the fertilizer in an exclusive interview Hon Peter Anekwe told LEADERSHIP “Our People are farmers. We are into the dry farming season. These items will go a long way to boast food security in our area.
“What we have given may not be enough, so I call on those who will not get today to be patient, there will always be a next time. We will continue to do our best to improve the lives of our people.”
