A factional acting Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Callistus Uju Okafor, has described the party’s stakeholders meeting summoned by the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, as illegal, unconstitutional and a jamboree.

In a statement he signed, Okafor said Nigerians should know that the meeting that produced Sen Nenadi Usman as the party’s interim national chairman is unconstitutional.

“We want to inform the general public that the jamboree gathering, tagged the Labour Party Stakeholders meeting, held in Umuahia, Abia State, is unconstitutional and unknown to any party organisation.

“Article 11 of the 2009 constitution, which is the only constitution known to the party according to the consent judgement delivered by Hon GO Kolawole on the 20th March 2018, categorically states the four organisations of the party: Ward, Local Government Area, State and National,” Okafor said.

He said, “Dr Alex Otto and Mr Peter Obi do not have the constitutional authority to convey any party meeting.

“We challenge Otti to produce the official letter addressed to him from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the aforementioned subject matter,” he said. Okafor insisted that the outcome of the Umuahia gathering remains null and void.
