All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants in the just held bparty gubernatorial primary election in Bayelsa State, chief David Lyon and Festus Daumiebi Sunday have called for cancellation of the election, saying that the process was marred with irregularities and compromise.

LEADERSHIP had reported that former minister of petroleum resources, Timipre Sylva was declared winner of the primary by major-general A.T Jubrin – the APC election committee chairman, after he polled 52,061 votes.

Daumiebi in a statement he issued in Yenagoa, the state capital yesterday, said card-carrying members of the party who turned out at various wards to cast their vote waited all-day but there was no election in the wards as officials of the party who were sent to conduct the election failed to turn up.

“Notice is hereby given to the general public, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State and the National Executive Council that I Festus Daumiebi Sunday, Governorship aspirant of the APC do reject in its entirety what was announced as the result of the party primary election.m,”bhe said.

Another aspirant, David Lyon, also rejected the result of the party’s governorship primary, describing it as “irresponsible and criminal”.

While condemning the process, he asked the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party to reject the results as declared by the primary election committee.

Lyon who made this known in a statement on Sunday stated that, “it is with utmost resentment and disgust that I read in both electronic and print media of APC Governorship primary election results, declaring Sylva as the winner by the Jibrin-led Primary Election Committee.

“It is a well-known and accepted fact by every well-meaning member of APC in Bayelsa State that the Gubernatorial primary election scheduled for the 14th day of April was not conducted all over the 105 wards of Bayelsa State.”

In a related development, the incumbent member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Preye Oseke, has congratulated his successor, Hon. Rodney Ambaiowei, for his victory at the Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency supplementary election held on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has declared Mr. Waibode Subiri as the party’s governorship candidate in the forthcoming Bayelsa State November 11, 2023 governorship election.
