The incumbent chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer for the 2026 chairmanship election after securing 51 votes in the party’s primary election.
The AMAC Electoral Committee chairman, Dr. Habib Ibrahim, announced the results and called on all aspirants to accept the outcome and rally behind Maikalangu for the party’s success.
Maikalangu defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC early this year.
In a show of solidarity, some prominent aspirants stepped down in his favour, a move that underscored the confidence reposed in his leadership.
The minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Hon. Zephaniah Jisalo, who also serves as the APC leader in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), congratulated Maikalangu on his victory.
“I commend all aspirants for their sportsmanship and urge them to accept the outcome in good faith. Our collective goal is to ensure the APC’s victory in the general election, and we must unite behind our flagbearer, Hon. Maikalangu,” Jisalo stated.
In his acceptance speech, Maikalangu expressed gratitude to the party delegates and called on fellow aspirants to join hands with him for the progress of AMAC.
“I thank our delegates for their trust and support. To my fellow aspirants, I say let us sheath our swords and work together for the overall interest of our party and the people of AMAC. Our unity will guarantee more development for our communities,” he said.
