Major markets in Kano State were completely deserted following the ongoing #Endbadgovernance protest in the state.

Commercial and business activities were put to a halt as banks, shops and motorist were not operational over fear of looting and being attacked by hoodlums.

A visit by our reporter to some of the market areas in the state revealed the heavy presence of security guards who mounted the various entry points into the markets.

The marketers had also packed their goods which were previously loaded outside their shops to safer warehouses.

LEADERSHIP Friday saw the chairman of Singer Market, Alhaji Musa Ibrahim, alongside his team on patrol. Expressing his dismay over the protest, he called on parents to call their children to order and caution them against the use of dangerous weapons, especially around the market.

“Parents should not leave their children unguarded when they come out to protest, especially around market areas. Markets are not a protest ground where they would come with irons or dangerous weapons.

“I notice groups of young people around 12 years old and even less which is improper. Parents should call their children to order and stop them from going out because there are hoodlums who want to seize the opportunity and commit their crimes,” he said.

Ibrahim, however, called on the youths to protest peacefully and stop looting and vandalising public properties in order to avoid what happened in countries such as Libya or Sudan to happen in Nigeria.

A resident of Normansland in Kano, John Femi, said though he was not given a break at the office, there was no tricycle to convey him to work, hence he decided to go back home for safety.

However, so many young people took to the major streets of Kano carrying placards with various inscriptions such as “end bad governance,” “we are hungry,” “Baba Tinubu should go,” and “return fuel subsidy”, among others.
