Making A Fortune From Broom production

Palm frond broom is a domestic tool bound together at the end of a long handle, used for sweeping. It is made from palm tree fronds and this business dates back hundred of years ago.

Although, a variety of cleaning devices and equipment are available, Nigerians have shown increasing preference for the brooms made locally from palm frond petioles. Hence, the demand for traditionally made brooms is huge and not readily met and therefore has led to mechanised system for palm frond broom production.

Procedure For Broom Production

Palm frond broom production can be done using machinery or Hand depending on your capacity. Using machinery (mechanically) happens after cutting fresh palm fronds from the palm tree.

The petioles will be removed from the frond and stacked into a pile then the petioles will be loaded into palm frond stripping machine for stripping. This can be done in bathes and brooms will be made. If you don’t have the capacity to use machinery, you can use your hand (Manually) with the use of sharp knife or razor blade to strip the petioles from palm fronds.

After getting the quantity needed, you tie them into smaller bunches with raffia thread or preferable plastic tapings as it beautifies it. You must make sure it is produced from a matured palm fronds and sell to distributors or buyers. The price varies from one place to the other and no matter the location, one is sure to make good profit.

 

Profitability

You can make money as a Producer, Distributor or a Retailer depending on your capacity. Selling of matured long palm fronds broom tied with plastic tapings thread is preferable to make good profit and your turn over will be high because people like flashy and colourful things.

You can make N200 profits per broom or more when you sell or supply a thousand in a month. That translates to N200,000 monthly income.  You can as well supply to departmental stores and there is room for export.

Minimum Capital

You can start with a minimal capital N50,000 to N200,000 depending on your capacity but your profit margin is sure.

 

Job Opportunities

Broom making production encourages local production among indigenous entrepreneurs and this enables them to create wealth and employment streams through local content sourcing of materials for broom production.

The palm tree is a great source of income in Nigeria because of it’s usefulness and the huge profit involved in every part of the tree (fruits, kernel, trunks, leaves and sap) used for different products. If there is any agricultural business one can advise anybody to go into, it is owning a palm plantation because this is a business that can serve many generations to come.
