A former minister of information, Labaran Maku, has advised civil servants to acquire necessary skills to ensure steady flow of income to aid their families after retirement.
He made the call while playing host to a group, “Maku Mentees” in his residence in Wakama, Nassarawa Eggon local government area of Nasarawa State yesterday.
“Maku Mentees” is made up of over 250 Nasarawa indigenes who are gainfully employed in Ministries, Departments and Agencies through the influence of the former minister.
Maku who is also a former deputy governor of the state noted that with relevant skills civil servants could contribute their quota to the development of the state and the country even after retirement.
He said in the course of acquiring the skills, the civil servants could leverage technology to further enhancing their outputs.
The former minister urged them to always impact on the lives of the poor and vulnerable while also assisting youths with jobs through their respective contacts.
Maku also urged them to shun tendencies capable of tarnishing the image of their families, the state and the country.
“Continue to make me and the society proud by discharging your duties effectively and diligently,” he added.
Chairman of Maku Mentees, Mr Bitrus Mamman, said the visit was to appreciate the former minister for assisting them with jobs.
“We are here to show you appreciation for what you have done in our lives, you have given us jobs and we thank God and we thank you for impacting on our lives positively,” he said.
