The 2025 edition of the prestigious Bauchi Polo Tournament came to a thrilling conclusion, with top teams from across the country clinching coveted titles in a week-long display of horsemanship, skill, and sportsmanship.
Emerging as champions of the tournament’s most coveted prize, Malcomines Polo Team from Jos claimed the Governor’s Cup, outclassing their opponents in a fast-paced final that had fans on their feet.
Additionally, Crown Club & Resort, representing Bauchi, took home the Emir of Bauchi Cup, a symbol of local pride and tradition.
In another fiercely contested category, Pop Cola Kano rode to victory to clinch the Tafawa Balewa Cup, named after Nigeria’s first Prime Minister and Bauchi native, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. The Kano-based side showcased speed and tactical brilliance to lift the silverware.
Meanwhile, the Sarkin Fulani Cup was secured by the high-performing Triple S Team, who edged out their rivals in a gripping final match to close out the tournament on a high note.
Organised by the Bauchi Polo Club, the tournament attracted over 22 teams from states including Kano, Katsina, Abuja, Jos, Yola, and host Bauchi. It served not only as a sporting spectacle but also as a major boost to tourism and social life in the northeastern state.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Bauchi Polo Club spokesperson Shamsudeen Marafa commended the players, sponsors, and fans for making the tournament a success, noting the growing prestige of the event on the national polo calendar.
“This year’s tournament was one of the most competitive we’ve seen in recent years. Bauchi is fast becoming a major polo destination,” Marafa stated.
