The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Sahabi Rabi’u, in connection with the gruesome murder of a 30-year-old nursing mother and her 10-month-old baby in Sheme village, Faskari local government area.
The police said Rabi’u confessed during interrogation that he and a friend, who remains at large, lured the victims to the outskirts of the village.
There, both mother and child were killed, and their bodies were burnt before being dumped into a nearby well. The investigation indicated that the attack stemmed from a paternity dispute involving the victims.
The commissioner of police in the state, Bello Shehu, condemned the killings as “barbaric and inhumane” and vowed that the fleeing suspect would be apprehended.
In a statement signed by the command’s spokesman, Sadiq Abubakar Aliyu, the commissioner of police assured the residents that the investigation would leave no stone unturned to bring justice to the victims.
The victims’ bodies have been recovered and the suspect remains in custody.
The police have appealed to the public to provide any information that could aid in the arrest of the accomplice, promising confidentiality to informants. They added that the investigation is ongoing, with further updates expected as the case develops.
