Man City Reject Barcelona’s £38.5m Rodri Bid, Demand £60m

Manchester City have turned down Barcelona’s opening £38.5 million offer for midfielder Rodri, with the Premier League champions holding out for more than £60 million for the 30-year-old Ballon d’Or winner.

The Spaniard, entering the final year of his contract at the Etihad, has yet to sign an extension.

While Real Madrid appeared his likely destination, Barcelona now lead the chase after securing the player’s approval to negotiate, sources told BBC Sport. The offer was submitted Friday.

Barcelona sources initially downplayed the likelihood of a deal, but the situation is accelerating. Meanwhile, BBC sources confirm talks with Real Madrid have officially ended.

Rodri, who missed most of the 2024-25 season with a serious knee injury and later a hamstring issue, returned to form as player of the tournament at this summer’s World Cup, leading Spain to victory. He is currently recovering from back surgery but is due back with City next week.

With the transfer window entering its second week of August, City are racing to resolve Rodri’s future to secure a replacement. Talks continue for Lille’s 18-year-old midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, though the French club’s £86 million asking price remains a hurdle.

According to Cadena Ser, Rodri’s agent confirmed Real Madrid made an “irresistible” offer post-World Cup, with club president Florentino Perez personally involved. However, Rodri chose a different offer, and Real were informed Friday, ending the process amicably.
